Marketing Audit Checklist: 6 Questions to Find Out If Your Strategy Is Working
The short answer: A marketing audit is a structured look at what you are doing, who it is reaching, and whether it is turning into inquiries. This checklist reduces it to six questions: where you are, whether you run ads, how your content is doing, whether you know your ideal client, your biggest obstacle, and the one thing you want help with.
You keep putting time and money into marketing, and you still cannot say where the actual bottleneck is. That is the "I cannot keep guessing" moment, and it is exactly what an audit is for.
What a marketing audit is (and is not)
A marketing audit is not a report full of vanity numbers. It is a diagnosis: what is in place, what is missing, and which one thing to fix first. You can do a useful version of it yourself in a few minutes, as long as you are honest with your answers.
The six questions, and what your answers tell you
1. Where are you right now?
Options range from "no strategy yet" to "doing things but nothing is working" to "consistent content but not converting" to "working and ready to scale." Your answer sets the starting point. Someone with no strategy needs a foundation. Someone ready to scale needs a system.
2. Are you currently running paid ads?
Never, not yet, yes but not seeing results, or yes and it is working. If you are running ads without results, check the objective you chose, who the ad is aimed at, and where the click lands before you raise your budget. This guide explains the difference between boosting and building an ad.
3. How would you describe your content and social presence?
Barely exists, inconsistent, consistent but low engagement or leads, or consistent and working. If you are in the third group, you are visible but not converting. That usually points to message, offer, or next step rather than posting frequency.
4. Do you know exactly who your ideal client is?
Not really, a rough idea, or clearly defined. If you are marketing to everyone, most other problems start here. It is hard to write a clear message, choose an audience, or judge results without knowing who you are talking to.
5. What is your biggest obstacle right now?
This one is open-ended on purpose. Write it in your own words. The wording often shows whether the obstacle is about time, clarity, visibility, or confidence.
6. What is the number one thing you want help with?
Strategy from scratch, fixing what is not converting, search visibility, or something else. This tells you where to spend your next hour.
How to read your answers as a pattern
- No strategy yet, and unsure who your ideal client is: start with who you are for and what you promise. Everything else depends on it.
- Consistent content, low engagement or leads: look at your message and your next step before changing your posting schedule. Here are seven things to check.
- Ads running, no results: review objective, audience, and landing page before spending more.
- Want help with search visibility: start with clarity and consistency across your listings and site. This guide covers it.
